Why were Virginia lawmakers talking about a poem? It starts with a letter that was lost for years.

“A poem begins as a lump in the throat,” Robert Frost once wrote.

In this case, it began with a letter to a state legislator. A letter with a request to make “The New Dominion” the official state poem. A letter that got lost in a shuffle of paper for six years until Del. Brenda Pogge, R-Williamsburg, moved offices, only to be found – and then to have its author’s dream dashed by lawmakers.

Local delegation discusses issues facing region, priorities for General Assembly

In a Friday morning forum at the Williamsburg Regional Library, state senators and delegates representing the greater Williamsburg area laid out their expectations for the state’s upcoming General Assembly session.

State Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment, Jr, freshman Senator Monty Mason, Delegate Brenda Pogge, and freshman Delegate Mike Mullin addressed an audience of about 100 business people and local government officials.
